Welcome to my website.
My name is Abisola Bankole. I am originally from Nigeria and I have been living in Canada for the past fifteen years. Canada has been my home and place of dwelling with my husband and two beautiful children. My passion to become a teacher began when I was a little girl of about seven-years-old. I remember setting up tables and chairs on our home balcony in a classroom style and I will teach my younger siblings of three numbers and alphabets, songs, and rhymes.
This experiences were the driven force for my educational pursuit. I completed my Bachelors of Education in Nigeria both high school and university education before I immigrated to Canada. I went to Thompson River University to complete the credits required by the BC Teacher Council in 2007. I was not able to do my practicum because I was an international student, and the program offered online does not co-ordinate practicums.
However, this experience made me reconsider going through the education process and program all over. Also, because I own a daycare, and I have been working with children for the past ten years, I decided to switch to elementary education. I am passionate about young children, and I enjoy working with them to create fun ideas, activities through play, and exploration. I love to engage their young curious mind that is always ready for discovery learning.
My philosophy of education is that every child can learn and be successful in school as long as they have the right support, environment, resources, and a teacher or coach that believes in their abilities to learn. I believe students bring diverse abilities and strengths to the classroom, the work of an educator is to leverage their strength to develop the skills that will help them face the world that keeps changing in technology daily. My pedagogical believe is that when you give children the right support, tools that enable them the personalize and own their learning. When a teacher gives students positive reinforcement, and provide them the materials, as well as the resource they need. Children will become successful in school in school.
I am passionate about Place Based Learning, First Nations Principle of learning (FPPL), Growth mindset, STEM, Coding, and being a lifelong learner. My goal is to ensure that students benefit from meaningful experiential learning. Checkout my artifacts that best represent the 9 standard required by the BC Teacher Council.
